Do you
know if they still sell
the one day/two park tickets?
- Yes, right now as of
May 31, 2007
they
go for $77 for adults $67 for kids.
•
What happened to the express pass system?
- Universal has
stopped their "Free" Express Pass Service,
and now only offer Express Pass Plus which you
have to pay for. It was a cleaver way to make
you pay for a once free service and the price
fluctuates from $15 to $50 per person depending
on the crowds at the park...
UNIVERSAL'S
EXPRESS PLUS PASS
- Allows you to bypass the regular lines by
providing Express Access to most attractions
at both Universal Studios Florida & Islands
of Adventure theme parks.
- Express Access is a separate line with a shorter
wait time at each valid attraction.
RESTRICTIONS:
- These passes are only valid for use on your
selected date.
- Pass is valid for one (1) entry per accessible
attraction.
- There are only a limited number of passes
available for sale for each date.
- Universal Express Plus pass is not valid for
admission to either theme park.
- The 1-Day/1-Park Passes are only valid for
express access in either the Universal Studios
Florida theme park OR the Islands of Adventure
theme park.
- Blackout dates may apply.
•
How much is an express pass?
- Since they stopped the "Free" Express
Pass Service, you'll find Universal Express Plus
Passes selling from $20 - $50. Depending on the
season you go and crowds. I've heard they only
sell 200 passes each day at each park so they
tend to sell out fast.
•
What is the difference between
the 3 Annual Passes?
- DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE POWER ANNUAL
PASS OR PREMIERE ANNUAL PASS!!! The Power Pass
has blackout days, no discounts on anything and
you have to pay $11 for parking so it's not worth
the $129.95. The *NEW* Premiere Annual Pass offers
everything that the Preferred Pass offers and
the extra cost comes from a bunch of things that
make no sense... like free express after 4pm...
the parks close at 7 and by 4pm the crowds are
already leaving the park and the lines are shortened
dramatically, then you get 8 free bottles of water,
you can go to a water fountain for free, and you
get into the park an hour early and you get a
free admission to Halloween Horror Nights... with
the boosted cost of the annual pass from $189
for Preferred to the $279 for the Premiere you
are paying $90 for that one day pass to Horror
Nights so it's not worth it... I would strongly
suggest anyone getting an annual pass get the
Preferred Annual Pass for $189.95.
*DON'T LET ME INFLUENCE
YOU... SEE FOR YOURSELF HOW EACH PASS BREAKS DOWN*
POWER

•
I understand my bags will be searched so what
should I not bring to the parks?
- Things you
have no reason to carry into a theme park like alcoholic
beverages, drugs and weapons. People think you can
not bring food or drinks into the park, but I see
people eating from backpacks they bring in with
them inside the parks.
• Can I rent a wheelchair or scooter just to cut
lines?
- I know that’s the common theory but no. At USF
wheelchairs give you express access on BTTF and
Jaws only. I am not sure which if any at IOA will
grant you express access. You can skip the lines
by getting a Universal Express Pass Plus Pass for
less then you would spend on the wheelchair rental.
• I am traveling with a guest who is disabled,
what should we expect when boarding an attraction?
- Many attractions maintain safety admission requirements
for guests with disabilities. Additional health
restrictions and guidelines are posted at each attraction.
We apologize, but motorized wheelchairs and electric
convenience vehicles (ECV's) are not permitted on
any ride vehicles. If you have questions, please
see any ride attendant or visit Guest Services
•
Does Universal Orlando give out rain checks when
it rains like at Six Flags?
- NO! They
use to in 2002 but stopped using the system. I don’t
see why Universal should give anyone free tickets
if it rains. That’s Florida… it rains every day
in the summer. If you go to Universal or any theme
park knowing it will rain why should that park give
you a free ticket? When they did offer the
rain checks they were only good after 4pm so you
really only got 3 free hours at the park and for
3 hours at the end of the day it’s not worth it
to get one.
•
What is Child Swap?
- Families with a small child may take advantage
of the Child Swap program. This allows one member
of the family to watch over the child while the
rest of the party waits, rides, then swaps places
so they may enjoy the ride as well. See any ride
attendant for further details
• Does Universal have a Planning Vacation VHS/DVD
like Disney has?
- Not anymore,
they stopped doing that in about 2000. Universal
doesn’t have the money Disney does to waste on free
videos. There is a site
http://www.orlandoflexticket.com/request.asp
that features Universal Orlando, the DVD is free
and will give you a taste of what the parks are
like. I just have a question though? What is wrong
with this site? It’s a more useful planning tool
they any video could ever be and it’s free unlike
those guide books you have to buy that don’t come
close to the insight this site offers.
• How many days should we plan to fully enjoy
the parks?
-
To fully enjoy both theme parks I suggest at least
three days: one full day for each theme park and
a third day to go back and re-visit your favorite
rides or catch ones you may have missed. If you're
staying on-site, you'll want to add at least a fourth
day so you can take a day to relax and enjoy the
hotel's recreational amenities, and go shopping
or take in a movie at CityWalk.
•
Would I get a chance to meet celebrities at the
parks?
- MAYBE!
I can’t say yes or no to that. I have seen celebrities
at Universal Orlando, so you possibly could too.
Just don’t expect to get an autograph or a photo
with them; they will be swarmed by security. If
they are really nice you may luck out, if not then…
oh well.
•
Is
Single Rider faster then Express Pass and how does
Single Rider work?
- What is Single Rider? It's just what it sounds
like... if you don't mind splitting your party,
the wait time for single riders can be greatly reduced
at designated attractions. Is it faster? Yes...
on busier days the Express Passes may have run out
for a certain ride and if you are going alone you
can bypass the line and get right on a ride. I always
use Single Rider for Spiderman and Men In Black.
• Would ride attendants give me a behind-the-scenes
look on some of the attractions working if I ask?
- It could happen, depending on who you ask. If
I was a betting man I would put my chips on them
not letting you backstage. I am not saying it can’t
happen but I wouldn’t bet on it. There is a VIP
Tour that takes you backstage through the park and
the rides which may satisfy your need to know how
the park works but that comes with a hefty $125
per person rate.
• How long are the park opens?
- That depends the parks are usually open 9am –
6pm sometimes it’s more and some times it’s less
depending on events. So the parks usually open for
an average of 9 hours a day.
You need to check their official
calendar
• I heard you can't smoke at Universal is this true?
- Universal Orlando strives to ensure park common
areas are smoke-free. Smoking is permitted only
in the areas designated by the smoking permitted
symbol. See park map for details
• Are there any daily parades like at Disney?
- NO! Except during Mardi Gras, Halloween Horror
Nights and Macy’s Holiday Parade.
• What are the usual wait times to ride the attractions?
- Depends on when you go. Here is a quick chart
on average waits I have witnessed.
January – February 0 – 15 minute waits
March – August 30 – 90 minute waits
September – October 10 – 30 minute waits
November – December 0 – 30 minute waits
The least busiest months at Universal are January,
September & November during these months the
parks are basically dead.
• I've never been to Universal or Islands of Adventure...
but I can only do 1 park which should I do?
- You can do both in one day, with a 2-Park 1-Day
Pass...
This is a common question for me and I don’t know
why people ask it, I don’t really know them or their
tastes so I can say go to IOA it’s awesome and then
have them e-mail me back bitching they didn’t like
coasters and I ruined their vacation or something
like that.
So it’s this simple. If you are a thrill ride junky
head to IOA. If you are more laid back and don’
t like thrill rides head to USF. That should be
simple enough.
•
What are the Annual Events at Universal and IOA?
USF: New Years Bash, Mardi Gras, 4th of July, Rock
The Universe, Halloween Horror Nights & Macy's
Parade.
IOA: New Years Bash, 4th of July, Halloween
Horror Nights. |

•
What are the height requirements for the rides?
My child is pretty short and I don't want them
to miss out?
- All the ride height requirements are listed
with their attraction on each page on the site.
If your child is at least 44" tall they'll
have no problem riding all the rides excluding
the rollercoaster's. If your child is over 54"
tall they can ride every attraction.
• How scary are the rides?
- That is an opinion of tastes, what I think
is ridiculous you may find scary. I don’t see
any attractions at Universal to be scary for anyone.
I was more afraid of the Haunted Mansion and Pirates
of the Caribbean as a kid then I would be of anything
at Universal. I suppose Mummy could frighten some
people, that’s what is intended to do, most people
find it funny not scary. It left me thinking “This
made no sense” not “OH MY GOD…. I CRAPPED MY PANTS”
So like I said it’s a matter of tastes, so I can
only say which rides might intimidate people.
#1 Revenge of The Mummy
#2 Any Coaster at Universal Orlando… Excluding
the kiddie coasters.
#3 Possibly Jurassic Park River Adventure because
of the drop.
• What should I did if my child gets scared on
a ride?
- Tell
them to close their eyes? When I was 6 I didn’t
want to go on the Haunted Mansion, my Dad forced
me on the ride. We were in the queue and I was
scared crazy and just wanted to go. NO… I had
to go on, so I covered my ears and shut my eyes.
My Dad knew I was scared so he pulled my hands
off my ears and ordered me to open my eyes, I
didn’t want to, but when you got an order you
did what you were told. So I opened my eyes and
he insisted on making ghost sounds and banging
the seat behind me just to scare me some more.
That’s what my Dad did, I would say convince them
it’s not real, my Dad tried to tell me that but
I didn’t listen so it may be tough, if they don’t
believe you, just tell them to close their eyes
and they’ll be fine. Once the ride starts there
is no turning so if it happens on the ride convince
them it’s all make believe or close their eyes
is the best thing I can suggest.
• What rides constantly have down times?
- Water Rides… However Universal usually waits
until September & October to close these attractions
due to off season crowds… well lack of crowds
due to off season, I don’t want people to think
there are heavy crowds in the fall. I have been
at MIB when it’s broken down twice, but out of
the 500+ times I have gone 2 times it’s broken
down and reopened within an hour isn’t bad. I
hear Spider-Man breaks down a lot but out of all
the rides at both parks I have only seen MIB down.
Not saying rides don’t break down but in all my
visits I have only seen 1 ride ever broke down
that I wanted to ride and that was MIB. So it’s
not really common to have rides break down, but
it happens at every theme park around the world
at anytime.
•
What rides should I ride when the park opens before
the afternoon crowds arrive?
-
Water rides, I will always say water rides because
I have seen the waits on them and believe me on
a HOT Summer day when it's 101 outside you don't
want to wait 120 minute to ride on a River Rapids
ride.
These are the most popular rides for each park
and should be seen before all the rest. I'll go
from Longest Lines to Shortest Lines.
USF: Revenge of Mummy, Men In Black, Back To The
Future, Jaws, Earthquake, Twister, Jimmy Neutron,
Shrek, T2-3D & E.T.
IOA:
Spider-Man, Hulk, Dr. Doom, Dueling Dragons, Ripsaw
Falls, Bilage-Rat Barges, JP River Adventure,
Cat In The Hat.

Does Universal have a Souvenir Cup Refill system
like Disney? If so how much do they cost?
- Yes! The refills are $1.25. There are 2 options
of refills, souvenir cups for $4.99 and souvenir
sippers (fancy themed drink bottles) for $9.99,
the first refill on that is free.
• Are there any character meals at Universal
Orlando?
-
Yes...
they have The Cat In The Hat, Thing 1 & Thing
2, The Grinch, Popeye & Olive Oly, Bluto, Wolverine,
Spiderman, Captain America, Storm, Cyclops, Woody
Woodpecker... I am sure they have more but I don't
know the complete list.
The character breakfast
menu, is as followed.
All you can eat buffet: scrambled eggs, sausage,
bacon, waffles, French toast, pancakes, frosted
flakes, rice crispies, assorted fruit, assorted
muffins, and croissants. It also includes coffee,
tea, or soft drinks (juices and milk are extra cost)
The cost for the character breakfast is as followed.
$15.95 for Adults and $9.95 for children, plus tax
and gratuity.
FYI: The character breakfasts only take place from
Thursday through Sunday mornings from 9am - 10:30am
You will need a reservation so you'll need to call
ahead 407-224- 4012.
They also have character dinners at all three on-site
hotels in the dining areas on select nights, when
it gets busier out there the character dinners are
more common. So if you are staying on-site be sure
to ask about those dinners.
•
Where is the best but affordable place to eat
at either USF or IOA?
- It's easier just to post which restaurants
are the most expensive. Lombard's Landing at USF
and Mythos at IOA are the classier higher priced
places to eat at the parks everywhere else is
pretty averagely priced for "Theme Park Food".
A lot of people are under the mistaken notion
that Theme Parks charge about the same as local
restaurants like Denny's or IHOP. "Theme
Park Food" is usually on the expensive side,
you can get a 12oz bottle of soda from a vending
machine (off-site) for a $1 at any Theme Park
it will cost you $2.50. Water the same thing $3
a bottle. I've come to the realization that $6.99
is the magic number when it comes to hamburgers,
sandwiches & personal pizza’s at the park
every one I have every bought was $6.99. Then
your drink will cost you $2.99 and if you get
a dessert that can cost up to $3.75 - $5 depending
on what you get from pudding to cake. A typical
meal that I get breaks down like this.
$6.99 – Hamburger
$2.99 – Large Drink
$3.99 – Slice of Cake
_________________
$13.97 – Total
x .065% Sales Tax
_________________
$14.88 – After Tax
- My 20% Annual Pass Discount
_________________
$11.90 – Total For AP Holders.
So a “Family Meal” can be pricey… lets say you
have 4 people, using the table above if you only
got the drink and the hamburger *remember the
$6.99 is like the standard main course price on
everything it seems* you would have a $10.63
total after taxes, multiply that by 4 people and
your basic family meal at Universal Orlando will
cost you $42.51 if you eat there twice in a day
you spent $85.02.
MY SUGGESTION:
If you are going as a family or group of 4...
buy a whole large pizza for $17.99 and a few small
drinks... the cost should be around $26 for a
family meal which isn't too bad when you consider
the fact you are at theme park paying theme park
food prices...

Where is the best place to eat at USF &
IOA?
- That
is a matter of taste, what I might like you might
hate, so I cannot really answer that. I don’t
even know what your definition of “best” represents…
“best” as in themed restaurant? “best” as far
as service? “best” as far as costs are concerned?
I will answer the question in several parts in
my opinion and you may not like my choices but
like I said it’s a matter of tastes.
#1. Best themed restaurant?
USF- Lombard’s Landing
IOA- Mythos
#2. Best service?
USF- Both parks have equal service.
IOA- Both parks have equal service.
#3. Best Value?
USF- The combo meals at Café La Bamba’s are fairly
inexpensive and filling.
IOA- Thunder Falls Terrace also has some fairly
inexpensive and filling meals as well.
My top choices to eat at Universal would be as
followed.
USF - Cafe La Bamba & Monster's Cafe
IOA - Circus McGurkus & Thunder Falls Terrace

•
How do you get away with taking pictures and
videos on rides?
- I plead the 5th on the grounds it may
incriminate me. No seriously when you slip
the ride attendant $100 bucks they’ll look the other
way… KIDDING!!! I really don't want to encourage
anyone to violate park rules, I think Universal
may look the other way when I do it because they
know why I am doing it. If they don’t let me slide
on when it comes to taking pictures and/or videos
then they don’t see me doing it; and if they don’t
see me doing it… then how I get away with it is
a state secret.
•
Do you work for Universal Studios?
- NO! Never had the privilege. I went to one of
their job fairs in 2003 and they offered me part
time street cleaner. I think you all know why I
didn't take it.
•
What is your favorite ride?
- It's a toss up between Back To The Future &
Shrek 4D, but I have to say Back To The Future.
•
Are you Tour Guide Mike?
- NO! It took me awhile to find out who Tour Guide
Mike was, but that is not me or my site.
•
I know USF & IOA offer many shows. What do you
recommend to see?
- All of them, I wouldn't miss the Horror
Make-Up Show or Fear Factor Live at USF or Sinbad
at IOA.
•
What happened to your videos on your site?
- Do you know what hotlinking is? If not it's
basically stealing someone's work to boost your
site while running up someone else's site costs.
Well some sites like IOACentral were doing just
that to this site. It was not only them but
a few other sites, I asked them all nicely to stop
and they refused. In fact IOACentral blocked my
IP from even accessing the site to see if they are
still stealing pictures and videos. Then went on
to insult me because I didn't like them stealing
my work. So rather then get into a legal batter
over the matter I removed the videos. |
